Default goodyear wrangler tyres sidewall splitting?

Hey guys,

Just a quick question, has anyone else dealt with the issue of side wall split on your stock tyres? After detailing the jeep on the weekend (5200km old) I seemingly have issues with the sidewalls, where there is a perfect split entire circumference of the tyre on 2, and the other 2 are showing minor signs of splits. It’s not "mudding" or "rocks" as it’s too perfect a split and it hasn’t cut/split the ridged writing (if that makes sense).

pretty unusual mate for a quality tyre like a goodyear. have you been running low pressure in the tyres or heavlily deflating them running on beaches . only thing i can think of. they do have a warranty though. try dealer or a good year tyre outlet. i think they replace them with a allowance for the mileage yhey have covered.

2 of mine had obvious sidewall bulges after a few thousand kms but they never seemed like they were ready to fail. I eventually got 66000kms on them before I traded in the 08 JK. I did put a stake right through one of them first time I took it out on a track and had to replace it - so much for the kevlar!

don't mean to be picky mate, but one faulty one or maybe 2 could be a faulty tyre problem, but all four seems too much of a coincidence. are you sure you haven't been driving with next to no air in the tyres on beaches and split the side walls?

My missus drove for 15km (work to home) with much less than 10PSI in one of ours after it went flat from mud stuffed into the bead (she didnt realise...). No damage whatsoever from this event. Have 30,000km an them so far and not a mark on them, and like wranglertj I wish they would wear out quicker! (missus wont let me replace them whilst they have decent tread on them )

How is the spare? It almost sounds like a batch fault. I would definately drop in to the dealer.

Thanks for the feedback, funny you say about the deflation as I noticed the fronts as I was deflating to 20psi for a run through glass house mountains (first time I had dropped the pressures), but my mate did the rears, noticed marks on the rears after I had re inflated and was detailing it at home in the afternoon, I would have thought 20psi in mud would be far from "under inflated" in the 4x4 sense. ever since then had them at 37psi and have TPMS having a fit so trying to work out why it has spat the dummy as well :S...

I have put a stake through one at a property not even 4x4 track, replaced that when the car only had 1000km and left it as the spare.

Thinking it may just be a batch fault, ill have a talk with jeep and let you know the outcome.
