Default Scanner jeep diagnostics WH CRD

Having brought a scanner a cheapie $50.00 that cannot read transmission codes.
Plus cannot take the jeep out of limb mode I am looking at other options.

Option 1/ http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....e=STRK:MESE:IT
The supplier advised: yes, Ms609 here will do transmission unit and will get your car out of limb mode when it happens.

Option 2/ ELM27 module to connect to my laptop and purchase software eg:
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/251096307677
The supplier advised:
I'm not aware of any software in the world that'll support enhanced OBD profile for Jeep (this includes: ABS, SRS, Traction, Electronic system).

Our software (like any other OBD software) will only read/clear codes for: Engine/Transmission.

I have no reason to doubt software won't work. As had many Jeep customers.

Option 2/ does appear to have more software options where as option 1 is limited to software preinstalled.

I am looking for something that will take the jeep out of limb mode and some diagnostics,
I wonder if its feasable to share software costs with others as for the private person we might go years before using it!

Hi hotqld,

None of those you specified will be able to read or clear your transmission codes. Have a look at this thread, it might answer your tranny questions: http://www.ausjeepoffroad.com/forum/...d.php?t=114665

For an inexpensive way to monitor you ECU and codes, check out this thread:
http://www.ausjeepoffroad.com/forum/...d.php?t=113325

Have a bit of a read of this one too, you might get a better idea on what the issue is: http://www.ausjeepoffroad.com/forum/...d.php?t=113468

Default Keys

Thanks Briteway

Another question, It is often suggested turning the key on off three times to display codes.
I have tried heaps just wont happen for me, wonder if the ignition key is faulty? We only have one and should get a spare, Whats the most cost effective way?

Don't order a key from the US without supplying your VIN. The WH (WK in the US) have different frequencies. I got stung. I have two keys that won't start the car. I could cut them and they'd let me in, but that's about it.

hotqld, the key dance doesn't work on the WH's for some reason. It works fine on WG's. Even if it did, it would only spit out the generic code as any other OBD2 tool would.

Do you have any tool to check for codes?

Default Getting Harder

This is turning into a bigger problem, I have a OB11/EOBD Scan tool + ABS. and have also ordered a ELM327 a couple weeks away.
My scanner on ABS is not recovering any codes saying unable to identify ECU together with "lost communication with TCM."
It is still stuck in limb mode a local mechanic did take it out of limb and suggested a transmission specialist as his scanner was saying a problem with the TCM. It went back into limb mode 150klm later

The transmission specialist reckons he took it out of limb mode but when I picked it up it was still in limb mode, he reckon he didnt have time if I wanted to source parts from the USA.
He had fault codes: B1668 rev lamps....I have taken aftermarket LED out and put conventional bulbs back.
U1408 Brake signal & C107C, Brake lights work fine he thought the high bay stop light had one led out, But I reckon there is only 6 leds not 7, Can someone confirm this for me?

I have "Transmission over temp" warning on and "service 4 wheel drive"
Codes C140A transfer case motor performance, will be running all the electrical tests for that today. Also when I did the front diff mounts 2-3 weeks ago I dropped the diff and the wiring plug was forced out, it didnt appear damaged but will test all that too as well as the rear diff sensors / solinoid.
I have the service manuals to follow for the above.

More codes: U0415 Impausible data recieved from ABS

Then I got the Battery tested by a Auto sparkie and had to replace he scanned it
U0101 Communication with Transmission Control Unit faulty
C140A Transfer case control motor
as well as the reverse lights above.

Both also came up with P0672, P0671 Glow plug circuits 1,2 and 6 open.

Any ideas? Suppose just test each fault and try to eliminate then import the parts like a recond ECU $250.00 and a transmission case motor is about the same? Dealers scare me I imagine to replace the ECU here would be a grand or two!

Default Transfer Case motor diagnostics

Further to the scanner picking up code C140A and then with reference to the service manual testing 21-929,
Test 2 passes no voltage T315 circuit
Test 3 passes no voltage T316 circuit
Test 4 passes no short to ground circuit T315
Test 5 passes no short to ground circuit T316
Test 6 FAILS short on transfer motor pins on circuits T315 / T316.

Anything else I should test here pull the transfer motor out and see if locally repairable? I tried that on CV joints and got charged 80% more than Rock Auto even including freight . Rock Auto remanufactured $180.00 inc freight.
Can anyone fault my diagnostics or logic?
Now off to test those temp / solinoid sensors in the diffs for the "trans over temp warn"
