Default Factory Kumho Tyres

My 8/2011 JGC Laredo has done 27,000kms, the last 10,000 kms towing a 2600kg van. The factory issued Kumho rear tyres are spent. They show excessive wear in the centre of the tyre, and at rest, the tyre has a definite concave shape. I have maintained them at the recommended pressures. I used a WDH when towing. The rears would be considered illegal now and probably were at 20,000/25,000kms. Prior to taking this up with my dealer, has anybody else experienced this type of wear ?

Same with mine but only safely got 23000kl and were shot. Now have Coopers & coopers said to run them at 31psi instead of the 33psi jeep said. I do about half my driving on dirt roads & poor tar roads up her in FNQ.

That's Khumo for you. My better half has a set on her Captiva. Only bought them a year or so ago and they are nearly due for replacement (don't know km's sorry). She doesn't tow anything.

One thing you need to do though is rotate them every 5,000 kms, especially when towing.

Yokahama Geolanders are the way to go, 80,000K and nearly due for a new set, not a great deal of towing about 6000k/year, mostly high speed highway, I run mine at 36 psi. Good on tar, dirt, sand but not great in mud, the price is okay somewhere around the $300 mark and come with a good warranty that covers FWD type mishaps.

Unfortunately this is very common place now and not just with Kumhos. I've seen Dunlop Grandtreks on Prados and Klugers gone by 25000kms too.

Prado was a mate's 120 series, and the Kluger was my brother's.

Had my Jeep Dealer look at the tyres today. He made the comment that had the tyres been properly rotated at 20,000km service (clearly they haven't) then the wear pattern for the FOUR tyres would have been a lot more consistent that JUST the rear two are showing. Fair point, I thought. Having said that , the rate of wear is still not good and I would not replace with same. I'll put the spare tyre on the back, buy one new one and then look at replacements for all four in due course.

So if the dealer is saying that they weren't rotated properly at the 20K service then why aren't they paying for their error?
