Default defected interstate

hi there, a quick question.

just wondering what happens if i get a defect while interstate..

wanting to plan for a trip to QLD traveling up from VIC and will have 35's (well, almost... 315 70 r17) and a 3" lift by that time with no idea what's likely to happen if pulled over.

thanks in advance

I know in the past that defects are a state thing. I got one on a SA reg trail bike in Vic. Once you leave the state it has no status.
You would have to be doing something silly to get one interstate as most cops know that its only a way of getting you to go home.
Is your jeep legal in Vic?

at the moment, but once lifted.....

i should clarify that it will have wider flares with full tire coverage, mudflaps and is always clean tidy and roadworthy, and for what its worth the tread pattern is not super aggressive either... so its wont be an attention seeker. just if they wanted to be picky it would be one inch higher than legal.. plus the 35's.

anyway yea, my main query was if a defect interstate follows you back to your home state coz i know the risk of defects is higher in QLD than it is in VIC

ohh, and i will have the roof and doors on :P

When stopped, just explain nicely that its roadworthy & all legal in Vic !!
I can remember back in the 70's , 900 Ducati's had to have different exhaust systems in different states for registration. Didnt stop then being driven to other states.
The Vic number plates may get you out of trouble.
They will probably just book you for speeding or something similar instead.

Wrong
If you have an interstate vehicle and enter another state and your modifications are legal in that state then you can be done.
As a retired police officer I can assure you of that fact
Igorance of the laws is no defence
