Default rough Gear change 2nd to 3r CRD Auto

Hi guys,
I recently bought a 2005 KJ Cheeroke sports, 2.7Lt CRD.

The gear change from 2nd to 3rd is very jerky. I don't think it is a mechanical problem.
It is like what ever is controling the gear change of the auto, takes the power away too soon, changes into 3rd, then puts the power back real suddenly.
Which makes the car jerk.
It is the first 4x4 that I have owned, this maybe the way 4x4 are.
I bought the Jeep because I needed a tow vehical, I don't go offroad or anything.
Any sugestions ?

Rob

Try unplugging the battery and turning on the headlight switch for 30 mins or so. This effectively powers down the computer and puts the TCM into learn mode. Then drive it somewhat gently for a day or too until the transmission re learns the clutch volumes needed for smooth changes. It would also be worth checking the fluid levels in the transmission to check they are within tolerances. And going back through the service records on the car to see if the transmission has ever been serviced. If not it could be an excellent reason to get the transmission serviced. Just make sure you use ATF +4 transmission fluids.
