Default Fyi wk2 steering pulling -camber/castor/tow

After a visit to 2 wheel alignment shops that Jeep Ballarat sent the vehicle to who couldn't fix the problem, finally got to the end of the WK2 pulling left.

Front/rear wheels only have castor on 1 set and camber on the other set, very basic setup but works well, all aligned within limits, ended up being the tow, which is the distance between front/rear wheels on each side.

Have come across 2-3 other WK2 owners with same issue and dealers couldn't fix, just said it was the road camber

The TOW is the critical one in this case which the first 2 shops we were sent to didn't know

I had just had my wheel alignment / camber done by a mechanics workshop where my son is doing a mechanical apprentiship. They made two comments.
1/ Jeep is built to drive on the right hand side of the road, opposite road camber they cannot get it perfect for our roads.
2/ Tyre shops are questionable for this work where the cars are primary designed for right hand side driving.

Its not the toe, thats how much the wheels are turned toward or away from each other. The thrust angle is the one I think you are referring to which is how parallel the front and rear axles are to each other (or an imaginary axle if independant suspension).

My WK2 pulls to the left too. Have had a couple of wheel alignments but it's still there. Can you please clarify what is the solution for this? Should I get the tyre shop to correct the toe / thrust angle??

Hi

I had this issue as well. Took it back loads of times to the dealership, and they said everything was within spec. At my insistence ( and cost), they took it to a specialist who adjusted the caster angle on the left wheel. That pretty much solved the problem. It still pulled a tiny bit, but was within my acceptance level.
A few weeks ago I stripped the suspension myself to fit the rocky road lift kit. Took it for wheel alignment, and ever since then it's been perfect! Better than it ever was before.
Makes me wonder if it's not got anything to do with the assembly process?

Cheers
Chris

I have had this problem with my ZG and WG, the idiots who say ' its because it's yank' don't use them as they don't know what they are doing, took awhile but I found Pedders were the only ones who seemed to be able to get it sorted up my way.

This is definitely not because its a yank car, It's because whoever you took it to has no experience with it and isn't willing to take the time to learn how the system works. Rex steering in yennora Sydney is who I took mine to after I installed the RRO lift. He explained mine was the first wk2 he had done so it took him 3 hours but he made sure he got it spot on. He even took me under the car to show me the adjustment points inc camber adjustments he did. If anyone in Sydney needs a wheel alignment take it to him. Best $200 I've spent to make sure it's all right.
