G'day FAB, welcome to the forums!
To get the engine codes you'll need a device that plugs into the OBD2 port under the drivers side footwell. The service guys all have these, and generally won't charge to give you the error codes - they'll just charge to fix it.
I use a scanguage2, and leave it in there all the time - it gives live information as you drive, as well as being a scan tool.
You could also get one of these - a Bluetooth unit that can be used with an App like 'Torque Pro'. They're cheap, but effective (I have one of these too, but rarely use it because I now have the scanguage)

I could give you some advice from recent experiences.
If you have a loss of power when accelerating, and it idles like a tractor, you most likely have a misfire. Firstly check that you're air filter is clean and the tube isn't blocked. If it's still running rough, check your spark plugs, I had 2 cracked ones only a fortnight ago on cylinders 1 & 3 causing me grief. There'll be a black 'burn mark' down the side of them if they're cracked. They only cost $8 each from Auto One.
If they're fine, then you might have a faulty coil pack, or an injector problem.
Check the wiring to each of the injectors to make sure they're connected with no worn wires.
The KK has 3 of coil packs, and you'll need the code to know which cylinder is misfiring. FYI - The Dealer quoted $154 for each pack, and a 2-3 day wait for delivery. Suttons in Homebush Quoted $112 and next day delivery - genuine Mopar parts too. Needless to say, I got them from suttons...
Having the codes would obviously reduce your time to diagnose the problem.
Let me know If I can help anymore. Good Luck!
