Default Removing fan!

Trying to change my water pump, anyone got any tips getting the fan clutch off, that big arse bolt won't budge and I can get enough purchase on the pulley to stop it spinning.

And yes I know it's a reverse bolt.

PS it's a 2000 TJ

i was told it was a reverse thread but my bolt came off by hitting it anti-clockwise. So looking towards the front of the jeep i needed to turn the bolt to the left.

To get more friction on the water pump pulley use a breaker bar / ratchet and lock it into the belt tensioner... if your jeep has it. then you can push the tensioner with the racthet to put more tension in the fan belt. Get someone else to keep the tension on while you work on the nut.

Give the shifting spanner a sudden knock with a hammer to the left (and right to make sure). Once its loose it comes of easy.

good luck

if by reverse bolt you mean a left hand thread, no it aint. it has a RH thread so anti clockwise to undo

a large 15" shifting spanner and 4LB hammer. give it a rapid smack. usually does the trick

Can i just clear this up as I've read different things; standing at the front of the jeep, looking at the engine, it's anti-clockwise (towards drivers side in a RHS Jeep).
