Default Metal fragments in front Diff

Couple of issues here, but first the spec,
07 auto 3.8. This means I have stock 4:10 ratio
Im also running KM2 35s

I dropped the oil in the front diff yesterday to check for water after a water crossing I did when my breather hose was not connected. No water but I found 4 metal shards on the magnetic plug. The shards looked like the surface of teeth that were shave off.

I jacked up the front end and also found I have excessive play on the FRH bearing. I have no idea how long it has been like this and how I never felt it whilst driving.

I have ordered two new bearing assemblies and I will change them out as soon as they arrive.

BUT...... where to from here re the the damaged gears? Do I just run it to failure and sort it out then, or should I take corrective action now? And if so what would you recommend?

I don't want to go OTT on this but I realize I need to take a sensible approach.
Im am seeking feedback to help me make the right choice

Thanks

John

X2
Until you clean it out & post a pic of the shards no conclusion can be drawn. They could have been in there from new.

Pulled the cover off Found some more pieces
As i mentioned my FRHS wheel bearing is as loose as a goose. Coluld this have contributed to the problem?

The ring gear looks ok, all the damage is in the middle.

Yum , yeah buy a e locker now . U may have to rebuild the diff because of the fragments , I destroyed lots of planetary gears on my xj , bit of a bummer , give all a close inspection for other damage , the fragments could of destroyed everything .
