Default urgent help needed

well the piece of .... strikes again.

replaced the trans socket this am, took 5 hrs, yes a lot longer than expected as nothing ever goes right with this car, so took it for a test drive and now its stuck in second gear (I think), so it drives forward in one gear and will reverse, it wont change at all using the gear lever it still stays in the same gear. any ideas

also it now clucks when putting it into drive, its not a smooth transmission like it was

Not really. Is it accompanied by any fault codes and has the MIL come on. Has it doen it a couple of times. eg have you shut it down a couple of times and returned the shirter to park to see if it is a temporary fault and resets. Stuck in second can be a hard limp (there's a contradiction in terms) but normally would be accompanied by a MIL.

Did you get your fluid back to correct level after repacing the socket. Didn't damage the pins on the conductor plate when you changed the socket or put the plug back in. What sort of dramas did you have that took 5 hrs.

well first of all getting the plug to come out took a while as it was in there fairly tight. then the new socket little tabs broke on the new socket when I was refitting so I put the old one back in but with the new o rings. that all went back in ok. a handy tip from the MB forum was to jack up the front right wheel only and you lose no oil. so no oil lost in the process. went for a test ride and noted the problem have since removed the lot again and reset it all and still the problem remains what is MIL. my engine light remains on and the codes are 0340, 0460, 0700. about 1 month ago I repla ed the crank angle sensor to try and help with the hunting issue (thats another post though and it didnt help)

Forgot you had a light from previous post, that is what MIL is. Has the codes been reset since changing the crank sensor. It could be an old code or could be for the cam sensor. 0460 is fuel level sensor circuit signal voltage too high or too low.

The hard limp can only be cleared by the dealer so maybe you need them to interogate the TCM. I don't think the fuel level sensor would trigger a hard limp, not sure it would trigger a limp at all. I don't see any reference to it in the manual in regards the transmission.

I haven't checked the codes for a while and not after the crank sensor replacement. the fuel code has been there ever since I found out how to check codes and yes I have a fuel sensor problem (another issue, another time). so I'm buggered tonight and the nearest dealer if they have time is 1 hr away. need the car for a trip in 2 weeks. I dont see how just replacing the socket has caused this

No.

You may get lucky and find a non factory diagnostic tool somewhere or at some mechanic but the only aftermarket type unit I know of costs over $2k. Debate is still out whether there are any mechanics tools out there that can deal with the 2.7 properly. At any rate I'm not even sure if the best non factory tool out there can clear the hard limp mode.

You could try a good trans shop but it is doubtful. Even MB cannot deal with the Jeep box.
