Default 4WD low

Hi all again , ive tried looking on the web but havent really found the answers . Im of to the Flinders for a day or two soon , might try out 4wd low on some dirt roads in my ZJ and see how it goes. Can somone please give me the correct procedure as how to engage it , do i put the auto in nuetral and glide , and at what speed, or come to a stop , and what would be max kmh with low enganged ?, i will also be towing a light camper for most of the time , cheers.

I'm not sure about ZJ's, having never owned one, but I always stop to switch between low and high. You should be able to do it either in park or neutral.

Just try it and see how you go. Remember though not to drive on bitumen in low range as your transfer case is locked and you can do a heap of damage.

i change in neutral around 5 to 10 kph so it engages properly

dosent like to do it when im stnading still in mine.

top speed on 4x4 tracks ive done in the xj cherokee (pig) is round 50kph in 4th gear

depends what gearing ya have, thats 35s on standard diff gears so wasnt reving to hard.

was in my mates tj wrangler over weekend he was doing around 40 or so in 4th gear also, same size tyres but revving alot harder. its a manual and he has changed his diff gears to 4.56

Roll at walking pace in neutral & then engage 4Low, reverse the procedure to dis-engage.
Practice on a quiet street some where, it won't hurt anything as long as you avoid turns & keep the speed down.

Clarky gets the money for this one!

Attached is the manual pages .. seems to be the best one to believe, I find the ZG does not require a lot of use of Lo as it is quite capable of going most places in Hi (noting that there is only 4WD) .. just point and drive it (hehe) which makes it a total pleasure compared with some off road.
