Default 3.8l JK Starting Issues

Hi All...searched hi and lo..but didn't come up with anything good regarding my issue. If I have missed something, then please forgive me, but here it goes:

Random starting issue with my JK petrol. Every now and then and there is no pattern to it, when I start the engine, it will start, but idle rough and nothing happens if I press the accelerator.

I have to do a reset (which was shown to me by another jeeper) which means turning the ignition on (up to where the damn ding-ding-ding goes off), press the accelerator 3 times, turn the ignition off and the the engine starts normally.

The car has recently been serviced, new plugs, new plug leads, clean air filter, new oil filter and of course new cooking oil!!

I tried to read fault codes, but the display says "Done"..so according to the stupid computer there's nothing wrong..however the issue still persists...

Has anyone heard or experienced this?

thanks to all in advance and all of the best..

bosco

Did this happen after the service?
If so, may pay to check leads and plugs are installed properly first

Hi wranglertj....checked all that, all good...I also changed the O2 sensors all 4 twice, as I had installed Bosch first, but jeep doesn't like those..so got some NTKs, same thing. All that changed in the last service was just engine oil and filter..

I'm thinking some other sensor (of the gazillions installed), might be at fault??

Maybe worth checking the coil pack as well

Yep, that's good too...what's got me puzzled is that the issue is intermittent...it might be good for an entire day (I use the car for work) and the next day it plays up 2-3 times...

Not sure if its related, try this when it won't start ( that's if you have an auto) push the gear lever firmly against the park stop & try starting it then, neutral start switch inside the trany could be worn
