Default iPad Mini in dash installation project

I am in the process of building out an iPad Mini in dash installation, there have been a couple of these done on these forums, but (no offence to those involved), they look a little bit rough, I am going to incorporate mine into the dash whilst still having it removable, it will charge whilst in place and run through an amplifier (replacing the head unit).

I would love to use a working CAD drawing to make my experimental stage less expensive (the Bezel is $200 to replace), so if anyone has one (CAD drawing) they can send me, I would greatly appreciate it.

Also, in the event that I cannot get a working CAD drawing, does anyone know of a good wrecker I may be able to pick up a spare bezel nice and cheap?? I am in Melbourne,

Thanks in advance.

There are audio shops in the US that sell a pre-made in-dash mount for the ipad mini, I remember seeing one on youtube that sat flush in the dash, and you push it & pops open on a spring loaded hinge so you can slide out the ipad. This would give the best finish, just have it fibreglassed into your existing dash & painted. Ones without a hinged carrier just add a big "bulge" onto the dash to cover the ipad, doesnt look very factory spec

The only drawback I see, is no more radio. Although I normally play mp3's, sometimes its nice/easier to just play the radio - not possible on the ipad unless you care to waste your data limit on streaming internet radio over 3/4G all the time.

Maybe you could hide a FM radio somewhere else, and have a switch to change source to the amp

On the 2012 the ipad mini fits nicely in the tray on top of the dash. You could mount something up there and keep your radio..

In aviation we use a docking station to panel mount the iPad mini

Now that is nice. I wanted to eventually run an ipad mini in my xj but now this is a pretty compelling solution. Only trick is it looks totally flat/square.

arkon.com.au do seat rail mounts etc, we sell some in our retail stores (mymac.com.au) and I have a glass mount one for our iPhones in both cars. Good quality stuff.

Check out Soundmans side slider, thats what I am going for, looks very neat (I am not going for a stock look), I don't listent to the radio at all so not having it doesn't bother me and if I absolutly have to, then I have the option to stream it.
