Default 2008 WH issues? What to look for?

Howdy,

Looking for a more practical car as a daily - checking out a 2008 5.7lt Limited on the weekend, anything in particular I should be looking out for?

Everyone happy with their WH/WK? Thoughts?Faults? Other?

Read about the Hemi shake a little, anything else?

Cheers,

Ben

I've got a CRD and love it. Never had a problem other than normal wear and tear.

My only suggestion is to take a CRD for a drive before you put your cash down on a 5.7L. You'll be very surprised with the power, especially if it's chipped or has a GDE tune. Up to 600 NM of torque, and fuel economy under 10l/100km which you won't get with the V8.

Drawback is the sound compared to a V8, but you can spend dollars on the exhaust to make it sound pretty sweet.

Hemi as a daily? Ok you have a big wallet then, nothing will be an issue

What Pmac said, the CRD kick it around town, half the fuel and better torque.

Service history, the hemi shudder, the hemi tick, front diff noises (R to D clunk), any codes in the computer.

Briteway runs a hemi, check with him as well as hes done almost all of his own service and repairs.

I'm happy with mine, although it's only a part-time daily driver (we have another "family car" + moto.).

I was initially looking for a CRD, and still would've preferred one, but I found the hemi for a great price with a lot of great mods already done.
Also wasn't finding many CRDs on the market, and the ones I looked at were in questionable condition... I'm still a bit scared of 2nd-hand diesels.

I average ~15-16L/100km with an extra ~200-300kg of mods and crap.
Can get down to ~12L/100km on long highway trips.
I'm pretty careful with the throttle though, if you have a bit too much fun it'll easily chew 25-30L/100km.

Hemi shudder or tick don't bother me at all, don't really notice the shudder at all... maybe I got lucky?
Do your research on correct oils, I think we've all found that it makes a big difference.

I think the most expensive/annoying things to check for before purchase would be;
- Clunk between D and R (usually front diff bushes.).
- Strange clinking noise from rear (usually the handbrake shoes coming apart.).
- Any error codes.
- Any whining from the diffs or transfer-case would be a big worry.

It'd be great if you had some way of being confident that it's been serviced correctly (correct oil in the diffs and transfer-case mainly.)... but you'll never know.

Ha! Nup, no big wallet but barely do any km's, and with a yellow brick TJ on 33s I don't exactly get great fuel figures now, hell I wouldn't be surprised if it's not better than the TJ.

Geezus 20L/100! My consumption barely changes whether I have the road or offroad tyres on (28 HT vs 32 MT.).
