Default Minor issue with keyless entry on 2014 WK2

Okay, I went kitesurfing yesterday and suddenly realised I had a bit of a dilemma. I normally have a key padlock I attach to my tow bar. It has a 4 digit passcode and you put your key inside it which was great with my old key...but...with my new keyless entry system, the key is close enough to the car that you can still touch the door handle and the car door opens meaning I have no way of locking the car without taking my key with me.

I've heard the emergency keys on their own don't completely do the job and only open the drivers door and glove box.

Any ideas?

Put the key fob in a waterproof zip lock bag and place in your budgie smugglers

I would say yes, but I've done it previously, had a leak and been on the losing end of a car alarm and immobiliser tragedy.

I'm trying to stop criminals, not Aliens!

Seriously though, would foil work? the padlock doesn't allow for much rooms so I'm not sure how much foil I'd be able to get around it.
