Default Tailgate fold down table - practical or not?

Hi all

I'm looking at buying a tailgate table. Last night I was looking at where it would be fitted, and I had 2 issues with it:

1) When the tailgate was open, imagining I had the table fitted and folded out open, I had very little room to walk without tripping over backwards on the tow bar right behind me.

2) Size - they aren't really that big. Is it just a gimmick, or a genuine handy accessory?

Does anybody have one (or seriously looked at one) who could give me an objective answer to my concerns? Like all things, these aren't cheap so I want to get some feedback before I spend the money.

I have included an example table photo so you know what I am talking about.

Thanks,
Anthony

I have one of the Uneek4x4 Flip tables fitted, and whilst I don't use it a lot, when I do it's very handy.

When camping or travelling, it gives you a little area to either use as a table to cook things on, or just prepare your meals on.

They don't give you a lot of space on the JK, but it is handy, and doesn't take up much space either when folded away.

If I had the choice again, I'd still buy one.

You can make one for less than the price of a carton. I thought it was very handy and easy to make.

A mate has just made one up too and finds it very usefull. The only comment I would make is on the earlier JK's without a tailgate strut the door moves too easily and everything falls over as it slams itself shut

I've got one and I love it. Also have rear storage in the JKU and its great to pull stuff out and put it on the table.

Make your own for about $10 - $15... two hinges, 12 tek screws, 2 pieces of strong thin nylon braid/rope, a piece of scrap 12mm ply to fit and some velcro straps to hold it upright. Mine has been very useful. It helps to have a tail gate strut. The commercial ones don't do anymore but cost $hundreds... overpriced.

I use mine all the time, total cost $70 as I used 5mm Ali checkered plate.

I put my Coleman Duel fuel stove on it and cook from it when camping, also use it as a quick stop table when for lunch when on 4WD runs, I don't have a tail gate stop yet so have just watch where i park so the tailgate stays open.
