Default Lift and Insurance

Hi all,

I am awaiting the arrival of my new Rubicon and in the mean time wanted to ask a question regarding lift and insurance.

I understand that the highest legal lift limit before requiring an engineers certificate is 2 inches. I am keen on getting a 3 inch lift and was wondering if it is difficult to obtain insurance for such a lift?

In addition, are there any other considerations I need to take into account with a three inch lift. I want to maintain the integrity of the drive train etc so any other tips or advice is greatly appreciated.

most will say legal mods, if you have a engineer cert, it is now a approved legal mod.

Apart form the usual "Engineering" discussions, there's no obligation for an insurance company to accept a cert and cover you. A couple of associates have received letters from their insurers advising them that regardless of engineers certificates they were no longer covering lifts greater than 2" across the board.

So... IMO its wise to check your insurers policy FIRST, you could end up legal but still not insurable.

Not too sure where you live mate? But do yourself a favour and I mean no criticism, or disrespect to any members or vendors on here, but contact an approved engineer in your local State or Territory and ask then directly if they will certify BEFORE purchasing any lift kit's, also talk to the engineer about what other mods you are doing and make sure it will also be certified. As previously mentioned and it is bloody good point, ask your insurance company what their policy states and ask for something in writing clarifying that they will cover the vehicle if certified (if their policy states this).
