In theory I just want to charge my van battery's when moving. I just told them I must be the only person in Aus to put -anderson plug on there jeep?

I have 2 Anderson style plugs on my XJ. I ran a pair of wires from the battery terminals down to the back with a detour into the cabin near the passengers seat for a second plug. I can use that for an inverter to power 240v stuff in the car. The back one connects to my camper. If the leads are straight off the battery I cant see how the electrics can have a hissy fit.

Default Anderson plug fitting to wk2

Baz, I've sucessfully installed an Anderson Plug to the back of my 2012 WK2 Laredo CRD via a Pirahna solenoid and cirquit breaker for my offroad Camper Trailer. Works really well.
There is info kicking around that the Altermator and Regulator has been changed on the 2014 models and you now need to use a DC to DC charger. Will see if I can find the thread.

Apparently according to Redarc, the 2013 GC also has a variable voltage alternator. So the regular battery isolator doesn't work. I've just ordered (off ebay, heaps cheaper $388 with delivery) a Redarc BCDC1225LV battery charger/isolator. This gets installed on the trailer, not on the car, and then I can power up direct from my solar panels through this unit, or when my car is on it will take over. Should have it fitted up in the next week, at the same time Deerings remove and refund me for the incorrectly fitted battery isolator.

Like Scarps, I've fitted a Piranha DBE140S isolator down beside the battery in my 2012 WK2 CRD.
Twin 6B&S cable from the isolator runs under the carpet to the rear anderson plug.
I also use a Sidewinder DC-DC charger to look after the aux battery.
I've had no issues in 20 months and 53,000k - it works perfectly.

Projector do a well priced DC/DC charger as well if you don't need the solar input. I already have a full solar system so got the Projector DC/DC for $185.00

The other benefit of the DC/DC units is smaller gauge wiring can be used with the heavier stuff harder to run in these modern cars. With compressor, fridge, aux plug and van charge circuits running to the back of my WG I had next to no room to squeeze anything else under the sill covers. Also less under bonnet which can be tight too.

Oh and I'd be getting my money back from the dealer for the value allocated to this task and going to a decent auto leccy, sounds like they are not really in tune with this task which is a worry.
