Default Engine oil type

Hi all
I would like some advise on what brand of engine oil I should use for my 2005 kj jeep 3.7 ltr v6 .. The owners manual recommends 5w 30 grade .. What's a good brand to use as I like to do my own oil change

Thanks Paul

How many km's has your engine done?

IMHO the 3.7lt V6 petrol, the V8 4.7lt petrol, 6L 4.0lt petrol are all nothing more than a old school tractor engine designed by good ol boys in the U.S.

So based on that...
Low mileage - 10W40 or 15W40 as the Ks get up over that 200K (mine has done 185K n I still run 10W40).
Poorly maintained engines with 250K or more on the clock its 20W50 (yeehaa).
Worst examples of the old straight six 400K, knocking loudly on idle 25W65 (good grief).

*I have used Shell in my business for a long time.
*Using a 5W30, and a synthetic is pointless and a complete waste of hard earned dollars.
*All technical BS, branding, synthetic this and that aside etc etc the best thing you can do to an engine is change the oil on a regular basis.

Regards
Daz

My V6 burns about a litre of oil every 10,000km.. mines a 2001 model with over 200,000 on the clock. I finally switched to a non-synthetic 10W-40 (Shell HX7) a couple of oil changes ago - got sick of paying big dollars for full syth 5W-40 - particularly with the top-ups required between changes.

I can't tell the difference since the switch.. and I'm certain the engine can't either. Something like HX7 can be had for around $25 on those 25% off weekend sales the autostores have from time to time. I always have a couple sitting on the shelf.

I'm thinking in aother 50,000k I'll be on 20W-50... and I never pay more than $15 for that!
