I've just done my stereo. Started by replacing the rear speakers running off the factory amp. Still sounded terrible. About $150 kickers in the rear still sounded junk. I'm not sure how the factory setup works but it wouldn't fade like it should and increase rear volume, only decrease front volume so to get fade right volume was poor. I wasn't happy so went onto fitting another amp to run a sub and the rears and fried the factory amp in the process. Oops. Replacing just the speakers isn't going to give you what you want. NEED MORE POWER.
I've got a amp under the passenger seat that runs the rear speakers and 12" sub and a new 2 channel amp under the steering wheel that runs the front speakers only. Finding a 4 channel that will fit in there is going to be problematic depending on the level of power your after then you still need to power your factory sub (assuming it has one)
I didn't use any adapters to set mine up and seems to work fine. Spliced into the factory loom for power and earth for the deck, accessory switch power from the ciggy plug to turn on the head unit. Pulled the plugs out of the infinity amp cable tied them out of the way and went about the install.
An amp that fits under the dash is gonna be hard to find. There are some compact units out there but with a much lower RMS rating. But still probably much higher than the factory amp. From memory you've got about 200 x230 to work in and limited height as well. Depends how much drive your want for your speakers.

The other thing you might need at crossovers for the front woofer and tweeters. I could be wrong but its possible they run to the amp which has an inbuilt crossover. I ran new speaker wires and external crossovers for my fronts so didn't check but I didn't see any crossovers when replacing the front speakers, it looked like the wires ran straight to the amp.
