Default OM642 glow plugs

Hi All,

I have got 4 glow plug fault codes on my Jeep commander and am hoping to replace them on the weekend. Unfortunately after making a couple of phone calls I am having a bit more trouble finding them in Perth than I would have thought. Supercheap and Repco could not find a listing for them (even with the Bosch part number) and the dealer had them but it was either the plugs or my house . Has anyone got glow plugs (preferably Bosch) in Perth and if so where did you find them?

Can't help with Bosch, cutting it fine but you might get these with express post.

Hi wal67, I bought mine through Supercheap Canning Vale. They had to order them took about a week.

For those that have replaced the glow plugs on there commander or grands do you have any tips or tricks?

I was working on the car on the weekend but couldn’t get the plugs out. In fact I couldn’t even get the long socket over the plug to try because it simply wouldn’t fit in the space left surrounding the glow plug due to the thickness of the socket wall. I have ½ drive long sockets and suspect that they probably have a thicker wall thickness than ¼ drive sockets, can anyone confirm this suspision? Do I need a special tool?

Also, I am thinking that Veales may have given me the wrong plugs because the new ones have an M10 head but the plugs currently in the head look to be M8 or M9 at the most. Has the head on the newer plugs been increased (I can't compare the threads until I can get the old ones out)

Cheers

You need ¼ drive & are 8mm tube socket with a 2" extension (4" extension for the rear passenger left glow plug), replaced mine 2 days ago.

I used http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/6x-Diesel...item1e7f15ddfe

10mm are the wrong size.

compatible part numbers:
GX2148, GLP197, GLP202, 05175756AA, DP51, Y-8002AS, DG-194, 0001595001, 0011597101, CE-013, ZPN-03877

Don't forget to use anti seize.

Need to remove the turbo intake hose, the rear brackets that hold the engine cover on & the small wiring guide two 8mm bolts for the front drivers side (right) glow plug.

Once you crack the glow plug they should undo by hand, if they don't they may be carbon build up stopping them. I have one with this problem & will need to source a puller to get it out, may try decarbonizer over a couple of tanks & see how I go.
