Default Cheap Tyres

Still waiting on the stars and planets to align to get some new rubber but have been doing a lot of reading around various forums and checking out some of the cheap tyres out there. Seems tyre price here in Australia hasa lot to do with popularity. Many examples of a tyre that was cheap a couple years ago now considerably more pricey now. The apparent popularity of the Summit Mud Hogs at $250 a corner now for 285/70r17 has me wondering if these will follow the same route and maybe in a year or 2 we'll see a substantial jump in price.

There are a few bits of info on these looking around online and mostly positive, but all within the last 12-18 months or so. Before then I can't find much. Makes me wonder about the other similar options at a similar price point.

Gripmax Mud Rage

Atturo Trail Blade

http://atturo.com/moto/tires

Federal Couragia

http://www.federaltyres.com.au/tyres...uv/couragia-mt
These seem to be readily available but I've seen very little mention of them here so leaves me wondering why? As other sites have generally good feedback.

Sonny Mud Digger

http://sonnytires.com/mud/
One of the cheap tyres out there that I've found a significantly lesser amount of praise for are Sonny tyres. But again very little out there about them even their own website has stuff all.

Interested in any experience anyone has with the above mentioned tyres. Or any other in the same price point.

Been loooking last month myself. Ive settled on the summit mud hogs which ive found for 250$ fitted and balanced for 315/75/16. Cheap as chips. My first choice was XMT buckshot mudder which where 175$ each (supply only) but only go to 285s. Ive found almost no info on xmt, but there is a member on forum that has them. Had good things to say. Ie quiter than expected. The summits get good reviews. Ill be putting them on next week.
I hear the federals are loud.
I think your right about popularity though. I remember 7-8years ago maxxis was just another cheap import. I guess cos it was cheap it became popular and its not so bad. These days its not so cheap.
I think we've moved past the days where everything out of asia is crap. Most product come out of same factry but branded differently. The older purists will stick to brdgestone and coopers etc but i reckon as time passes and the younger people who arent that brand orientated grw in numbers, the big brands will go offshore to survive. Like all things.
Anyway cheap dont mean crap, just means ppl with no idea talk shit just cos its cheap giving the impression its crap. Just ask a hilux driver what they think of a wrangler.

I've got the Atturos in 33x12.5 for about $270 I think from memory mounted on AEV pintlers. Put them on at 4000km and only at 6500 now so can't comment on longevity but they've performed well in all types of off road situations. There is a bit of noise as expected but nothing that distracts from the enjoyment of driving the jeep.

Not sure if there cheap, as struggling to find an Oz price, but the nitto trail grapplers seems to get great reviews on US fourms/blogs etc. The mud grapplers also look the goods, but dont suit my needs. Otherwise 2nd hand off forum members maybe a way too go

Yes XMT Mudders/Buckshot is another I forgot about. Priced right at the bottom of the range under $200. Hopefully some people will have had any of these for some time and can provide feedback about them over time. Look very much like Maxis Buckshots, wonder how much difference there is in the actual tyre or if its just a branding difference.

I did see the Atturos in 35s for under $300 as well. Look to have some DEEP tread. How do the 33" Atturos measure up?

I have had Feds and won't go back to them as they are cheap for a reason. Great in mud and fine on road just don't last. I reckon if I got 35k out of mine I would be lucky. I now have Bighorns and a much happier. A lot quieter than Feds on road and the cost is about the same. Also as far as I can tell mileage will be better. I was told 70k but a realistic figure on 31s with 4.1 gears in an XJ I should get close to 50k.

Regards A

I got a couple of $90 Chinese ATs (30-9.5-15), Double King IIRC, the year before last. Have fitted them on the back for about 30k & they are now about 70% worn. They are strong in the casing & probably ok for the price.
