Default Turbo leak CRD 2.7?

I have been having some sort of smell in the cabin when you stop in traffic. Have not been able to work out if it was exhaust gas, burnt oil or burnt diesel. Have not been able to find any oil or diesel leaks on block or manifold. But today I saw some signs of leakage around waste gate shaft. Could this be where the smell is coming from? Is it normal for there to be soot near the waste gate shaft? I live on the north side of Brisbane could any one recommend where to take it to for advice. Have attached some photos showing the soot.

Mine has always looked like that..............so I would say your smell is something else...to check out the cabin smell make sure your A/C is shut down fully, windows closed before you pull up as it may just be the ULP stink you get from other cars getting in thru your vents, otherwise have a look underneath when you get home for any snail trails on the exhaust near the auto. If you recently got a service they may have dropped some onto the manifold out of sight.

PS: If you have kids look under seats.................check bottom of shoes/mats..................

Thanks for that Drover will try with air con off. Wife says its Diesel but may be some sort of oil. Cannot see any sign of oil near manifolds from top or bottom. Sealed up access holes for injectors. Some one did a great job on mine, not, cut a rectangular hole from firewall to the front of lip. Maybe 75 wide and 100 long, bloody mess, was hard to seal. Smell started with no 3 injector leak. That is now fixed but smell did not go away. Exhaust under car looks OK. No oil leaks under car. But car smells funny when you get out.

If the panel was cut to get at the injectors and not resealed then you could be getting engine fumes thru the vents as they draw from that area where the wipers are and if the did a butchers job I would look around a bit more they may have done some more . Also check the flexy joint on the exhaust.

Yeah drovers right mine looks like that too so definitely not a place for concern. That shaft and hole cannot really be totally sealed due to the nature of the design. Our Challanger has it too and it's only done about 30,000k's.

could it be that you still have a reasonable amount of residue around the number 3 injector that is getting hot and giving off fumes. Old diesel or maybe something like WD40 or something else that may have been used to clean or lube the job.

Looks like I might have found the problem. There is a bit of black death around number 5. Was not there 2 weeks ago that I could see when I sealed up the access hole. Not sure I want to repair this. Do not have special tools to remove injectors and unsure which type to buy. I bought the car with 128K one year ago now has 160K. Since then number 2 injector was replaced under warranty. Then 1000K away from home number 3 started leaking and was fixed in Sydney. Now number 5 leaking. Sounds like time to fix the last 3 at the same time. Can anyone recommend someone good with reasonable rates in Brisbane. It looks like someone has had a go at number 5 before as the hold down bolt has a hex head which makes you wonder what the story is. There are some horror stories about removing these injectors on the net. Do not want to stuff anything up.
