Default Busted Clutch Cyl or Box?

Hoping some people here might be able to help out with some info before I dive completely into this one. The Mrs KJ (05 6sp 2.4 170k) is a little "truck like" getting into 1st and 2nd but from 3rd on seems better but still not very refined. I rarely drive it so can't really compare to what it used to be like or if anything has changed since we bought it with about 95k on the clock 4 years or so ago. It had the clutch replaced about a year ago and does not have any slipping issues or anything that suggest the clutch itself is failing again. Seems to be a little oil at the bottom breather gap for the clutch/flywheel that appears clearish and doesn't seem to have a gear oil type smell to it but is definitely not engine oil. I can't see any external leak on the plumbing for the clutch. Searching around here has so far been unpleasant in the info I've found. Is it correct the master/slave are a complete unit and not serviceable or replaceable individually? I'm yet to a attempt to pull the slave out and have a look and see if its leaking as I have no manual for it and wanted to know if there is anything I need to know first. I did replace the gearbox and transfer fluids today and there was some material on the gearbox magnetic plug. Nothing large but some miniscule stuff mostly covering the magnet.

Mrs does say sometimes it jumps out of first but I've never experienced it or been in the car when its happened to her (I think she just wants a new car).

Anyone in the KJ brainstrust got any info they can provide, thoughts, experience, good news would be nice but I'm not holding my breath?

Cheers.

Yes, it's true about the clutch release system being a single unit, but your symptoms don't sound like release to me: unfortunately it sounds more like a gearbox overhaul.

Do you really mean the 2.4L 4cyl petrol engine?

Yes. 2.4 petrol.

Clutch feels a little spongy like there's air needing to be bled but seems to disconnect drive.

You have problems with the slave/master cylinder. Best just replace it. Probably should have been done with the clutch replacement.

Is it normal practice to change both together? Why? Seems odd as they are separate. Every other vehicle I've had never had to do either of the cylinders with the clutch or at all, and I've done several clutches.

The jeeps have plastic cylinders. The newer ones like mine are sealed systems, no bleed nipple. I have had my cylinders in pieces. If you know what you are doing you could replace the seals as long as the bore is good. I couldnt work out how to get to the valve in the end of the MC. Cant hone plastic.

Good to know they at least come apart and aren't crimped together or anything like that. Might be worth the time to try. Would have to look to see how to assemble without any air pockets.
