Default Has anyone bought in a tyre from the USA?

G,day

On the weekend the wife ran over a gal post in the drive and trashed the front passenger tyre on the GC SRT.

As they are run flats they cant be repaired and after a ring around there aren't any 295 45 20 Pirelli scorpion verde all season run flats in the country (go figure) and I have been told their wont be any here until the end of Sept at best.

My options are to wait or bring one in from the US. As I have never done this I was just after some advice/experiences on importing tires and the costs/time it would take to arrive.

I had thought about buying 4 new tires in another brand but as the SRT is only a few months old and the tires are basically new I just wanted to replace the one.

Cheers

I've bought tyres from the US twice so far from onlinetires.com and shipped by usatoaus.com. Took 3 months though which may be too long in your case.

Thanks, I thought that might be the case.

Looks like the wife will be driving the other JKU I have for a few weeks.

She's been spoilt driving the SRT and now isn't keen on the JK anymore lol

Last time I ordered was through Tirerack.com a little under 2 years ago. Freight at the time was around $600 for 5 255/80/17. Time taken from ordering to receiving was 1wk.

I've also brought in various sets of tyres....be aware, according to my importing agent, AQIS is now charging a fee (I believe its around $240) to "inspect" tyres...whether they are new or not.

I used www.tirerack.com to buy a set of 5 Yokohama Geolander AT-S in a 245/70/17 and the transactions was quick, painless and very cost effective.

They will only accept a direct deposit into their account but as they're in the US that means a trip to the bank and an International transfer.

I did this on the Thursday and the tyres arrived on the Tuesday, 3 working days later. Shipping was around $500 for the lot.

It may pay to bring 2 tyres in and leave 1 as a spare.

Cheers

Tim
