Default Connecting UHF Cable

Hi all, I've just installed a new GME aerial to my KJ Cherokee. Ive mounted the aerial, run the cable through to the cabin. The question I have is, what is the right/best way to connect the actual cable to the connector? The connector that is supplied has thread on the end where the cable is inserted but there was nothing else supplied. Now the obvious choice is to strip the shielding and solder the wire inside the connector but that thread is there for a reason. I'm assuming there is some type of connector you buy that is crimped onto the cable and has a thread that allows you to screw into the connector that inserts into the radio/CB? If so what is it called? I might go for a quick drive to Jaycar tomorrow and see if they know but if someone here can confirm that would be great!

Hey jeepboy,

Strip the cable and fold the shield back over itself so you now have the solid part of the coax followed by the braided shield covering the outside insulation of the cable then screw the connector over the top.

Not sure if that made sence but there should be some vids on YouTube.

Your coax is fitted with an SMA connector, mostly for portable UHF handsets. You will need an adaptor to take it to an FME connector for a UHF base unit.

Many antennae come with the SMA socket on the end. You possibly need a Jaycar catalog PA0612 which is the large PL259 connector with the SMA adapter on the end to screw into.
Check that your antenna did not come with it.
