Default Achilles Desert Hawk XMT - Opinions?

Anyone using these tyres at the moment? Curious to know if they're any good or just another rubbish cheap tyre.

I've been quoted $299 fitted locally for 305/70/17.

Not overly concerned about wear rate at that price, but I'm a bit worried about how they go offroad (grip/sidewalls/chipping etc) and what they're like in the wet on the tarmac.

I'm also looking at the Mud Hogs given they've received a pretty good wrap, but there's no local supplier and with shipping and fitting, they're well above $300 in the 285's.

Other options locally include Bighorns 305/70/17 at $370 and Dick Cepek Mud Country 33/12.5/17 at $419.

Mickey Thompson MTZ 33/12.5/17 were $485 a corner fitted.

Got them as a second set. Very happy with their performance offroad. Haven't tried them on any sharp rocks but what I have tried them on so far they have held up quite well. Softish compound so not sure how many kms I'll get out of them.

Run them at 26psi cold onroad and 12psi offroad. 17x8 rims and no bars yet. Measured at 33.25" for Procal.

$299 fitted is a good price. Best I could do up here was $330.

Cheers for the reply and pics Fruju.

Looks like they air-down well enough. Those are the 305's right? Have you had any balancing issues? How do they handle on the road - reliable enough for a daily driver? I'd be running them as my only set of tyres, daily commute and weekends in the mud.

Yes 305s. One probably needs rebalancing but they are on a 2nd hand set of rims so I will just run that one on the rear.
I left them on for a couple of weeks at a time and would be happy to have them as a DD tyre. Need to wear out my other set first.
Just need to run them at the right psi for your vehicle otherwise the leading edge of the lugs will get chewed up.
Now with the 4.11 and Pentastar they are the perfect size. With yours you may notice a difference.

It'll make me even more jealous of the 3.6. Shouldn't be too bad though, I've got 4.1 gears.

What backspacing are your rims? Do they stick out past the flares?

I have them also. Been on for 1,500kms so far. I like them. Running them the whole time. 305 70 17. Not noisey, great grip in the wet. Haven't been off road with them yet. Ive run allthe expensive tyres and so far these are great and well worth the coin.

I saw GQTRBO had them and was able to get a set for $305 at jax tires. Done about 100 -150 k's now and most of that is wet weather thanks to brisbane this weekend.

Lots of grip in the wet and even in the wet stuff offroad this arvo, they offered excellent performance. Best thing i have found is they are just as quiet as the stock good years and done have the big rumble at low speeds you get from big blocked mud tires.
