Where about was this photo taken?
Guessing its a selector cable for transfer case. Is your car auto/manual Petrol/Diesel?
If it's drive able it's not your auto transmission selector.

Yup 4wd select cable. There is no nut, it is a clip on. If you search the forum there is a part number listed to fix this, or do what others have done. My fix was a piece of fuel hose put over the shaft as a bush, the cable goes on that, then a washer and the correct size c clip. Haven't had it come loose yet and I use it weekly.
Nvm I see you found it. They use an axle nut, clip on thing. I could never get one to snap on so used a c clip. Might have been an e - clip. I'll take a pic tomorrow. Just bought a selection pack from bunnings for a whopping $4 and went through them till I found the right size.

Cheers I rang Jeep apparently you have to purchase the whole cable for my Model after I supplied the VIN Cost from Jeep $290 and all I wanted was the plastic clip. Apparently the clip thats been advertised is for the wrangler and will not fit the KJ confirmed this with Jeep. I am sourcing a price from the US as the cable over there is $79 plus postage
Also looking at the fixes seen on web tried these on Sunday could not get the push ring to clip over the ball joint not enough space for fingers

Could you use something like long nose pliers to get into position. Then pry it on with a long screwdriver or something.

If you use one of those shaft nuts use a loooong flat blade screwdriver or a pry bar. If you use an eclip it will just slide into the slot on the shaft, much easier.

Thanks for all your help decided to just purchase the whole kit from USA Total cost came to 115 dollars AUD still cheaper than purchasing here 290 dollars, still I did ask why so dear here no one from the Australian suppliers replied
I suppose if Jeep charged prices realistically perhaps more jeep users would use their services, dont even ask what they wanted to charge for installation
