Default Xj update Immobiliser issues again

More intermittent issues with my 97 td xj , remote is starting to only work when it wants to , bought a new battery and no change , . It does work sometimes but not reliablely , and due to the fact it controls the immobilizer , kinda has me worried :-/I have from one of my parts car 'a 97 td xj' a remote and the circuit board from behind the cover where the center console is in mine , I havnt tested these but is there any reason if I got stuck , disconnecting the battery from the car and swapping the spare circuit board into the xj , and then reconnecting it that it wouldn't work ? Is there any special syncing needed ?

The one in my hand is the one that is being intermittent , the other is the one from the spare parts car

I can't imagine it would not need to be synched. After all, the immobiliser feature is within the ECU.
If only, if otherwise this would have been the fix, which, as far as I know, has not been found there ( have also an intermittent issue, but thats the immobliliser and not the key).

Have you cleaned out the key itself? because it appears your key is the issue, not the other parts.
What you tried asking the dealer if they could reprogram your 'spare' key ?

Ok sorry maybe I worded it wrong , it's the whole remote that's playing up , when it actually works which is after a bit of tappin and bashing of the buttons haha , the immobiliser disengages fine , and the car will start and drive fine , key works fine , it's just the remote , I thought the circuit board that is pictured is the one that is matched to the remote and thus if u change boards , the remotes will change too

Have you had the remote apart ... and inspected it ??

The graphite stuff can wear off the rubber pad ... so contact with the circuit board can be intermittent ... maybe try the pad, out of the spare remote ??

Theres a little prong from the battery holder that contacts the circuit board ... it might need a tiny, gentle, bend ... to enable a better contact ... away from the area it might have rubbed through the contact.

... thats a tiny, gentle, bend ... which is somewhat different to tappin and bashing ..

Get a can of circuit board cleaner, and give it a squirt too ... 15 odd years of sweaty oozy human contact and handling - tends to put a film on things - that need good electrical contacts.

AFAIK the remote doesn't switch off the imobiliser. Mine often doesn't work yet the engine will start every time time I open the door with the key. Unless of course the TD is different.

Not sure what years it ranges from but yea the 97 td immobiliser is only disabled from the remote , will only run for about 10 seconds without unlocking it with the remote
