Default Useless car electronics!!

Went out to my 2014 WK2 on Saturday morning and discovered the battery was flat (due to it having been parked since Thursday with a fridge plugged in - silly thing to do I know). Tried a jump start which didn't work so called Jeep Assist: the technician also tried a jump start then phoned someone for advice. The advice was that when the battery voltage drops too low the immobiliser forgets the details of the key, so I need a tow to the dealer so that he can instruct the car system to recognise my key!

And of course no dealer service workshops are open on Saturday so I have to wait until Monday morning for all this to happen! Just as well we are staying with my wife's sister - I would have been even more annoyed if it had happened whilst travelling.

Why would anyone design a system that can't be jump started? Be warned!

Warning noted.

Raises another question though—how do you power the fridge when the Jeep isn't running? I thought the outlet in the boot was only powered when it is running?

If they are like my wrangler, the boot outlet is always powered, independant of the key.

On the wranglers, the cover of the outlet has either a picture of a key, or a battery on it to denote if it is connected direct to the battery(like the one in the rear), or only powered with the key turned on (like the one on the dash). Cant remember what the one in the console is...

The grand has a fuse you switch out to make the rear run when ignition off - it's originally set to key I'm pretty sure

So if the battery going flat makes the immobiliser forget the key, what happens when you disconnect the battery for maintenance purposes? Surely that can't be right?

oh yay way to burn out things , nothing worse getting a flat battery , nothing worse than when you jump start and connect the positive last ! pos first then negative and make sure the keys are off in both , start jumper car first , then sit for a bit then start , key ? never seen that one , the main one I have seen is where the car has reset switch. (things like mercs and so on they save the coms being burnt out)
