Default CRD Overheating - Hayden Replacement Fan Clutch

I suspect that my viscus fan clutch is not working properly and causing the car to over heat (the needle starts to rise quickly) when travelling over 110km/h with the aircon on. I slow down to 100 and it sits back on halfway.

I notice that a lot of the KJ guys here and in the states have ugraded to the Hayden Severe Duty Fan Clutch as they engage at a lower temp and with greater force.

I found out the KK part number for the clutch fan: 52029291AE is shared with the dodge dakota.

Do you think this will fit the KK then? > http://www.summitracing.com/int/part...w/model/dakota

How hard is it to replace these fan clutches? I have read that you need a special tool while others do it without?

I also intend on pulling the radiator and intercooler out one weekend to clean any bugs, sand and mud that could also be affecting the air flow.

I'm assuming this is a fan mounted directly off the engine. Although I've not done this to a KK, I have had to repair a viscous coupling on a 4wd and to remove it also required removal of the radiator. Didn't use any special tools on that occasion.

Couldn't give any more useful info other than perhaps the coupling is low on viscous fluid. It's perfectly fixable in most cases but might not be worth the effort if a new part is cheap enough. Curious to know how you get along with it.

Not difficult to replace. You will need something to remove a large nut assuming it is the same as a jk, 36mm. It's tight but an adjustable shifter could work. Other than that just normal hand tools. I believe you will need to replace the bolts too. Metric on vehicle, imperial on replace Iirc.

If you do a search on Hayden etc as I'm pretty sure it was Glend that did a large write up on replacing the fan for a HD Hayden one on a KJ.
Aside from that Chris is pretty much spot on

Before parting with your money I'd suggest you clean your airways as you'd hinted , mud and sand will reduce you cooling capacity .
I've run large v8's with thermo fans and can tell you they don't turn on at speed , the airflow thru the radiator at speed is significantly more than a fan can draw. Viscous fans are designed to slow down and stop because the airflow is greater than the fan can draw . If cleaning doesn't help look at the radiator for sediment .
Good luck

Fan clutch made a huge difference it was entirely buggered. Although better still doesn't seem to sit right. Warms up a little and sometimes sits a tad cooler than it should.

In the process of ordering a new thermostat from the states. I got quoted $1400 for it to be replaced by jeep in Darwin [emoji43]
