Default Carrying a spare around town?

Hey everyone.

Had a big puncture (sheet metal) during the week and it was easily repaired with a puncture repair kit from bush ranger to my surprise (more like a slice). It's made me rethink carrying a spare on daily commutes. Going up to 35"s soon and adding other weight in bar work, racks etc I could save the 30kg or so. Anyone else considered this? Obviously the spare would go back in for longer drives. I run no tyre carrier and strap down the spare in the back of the jk. Checked that my 35s will fit.

Driving the missuses Mini around town and it does not have a spare from factory...

The Cooper has a space saver under the boot but the Cooper S with Supercharger has no room for the battery under the honnet so they bury it in the boot where the space saver used to sit...

So short or long trip, no spare... It does have the (optional) run flat tyres at the moment but originally came with a puncture repair kit and can of CO2!

You can't really blame them for doing that I guess. It's interesting... In 8 years of jeep ownership or so I've only had 1 flat and that was last week.

In 33 years of driving I have prob had six or so flat tyres and most of them from driving onto a building site in company car!

In the Jeep I do carry the rope plug repair kit and have fixed a screw in the work car, a small nail in rhe Jeep stock tyres and about half a dozens friends tyres.. the last puncture I got in the Jeep was a stick the size of your thumb through the sidewall. Aint no repair kit gunna fix that one on the side of the road!

Bottom line it's all down to how much risk you want. I think a compressor and a repair kit will get you out of most spots locally but agree to carrying the spare on longer trips.

All the flats I've had in many years have been bloody tek screws dumped on the road by uncaring tradies from their utes.....bastards!
A repair kit and compressor would have been fine for them....actually a couple of the repairs I did at home without even having to take the wheels off the car.
Dave, I've seen a guy temporarily repair a punctured sidewall with a bunch of rope seal repairs all jammed into the hole....it held air enough to get him out of trouble.

A lot quicker to change out a spare than to plug a tyre. Particularly relevant if you're stuck in shitty weather or it's the end of a long day.
