Like going fast but want a Jeep? You’ll probably want a Grand Cherokee SRT..
Oh wait, you can’t have one of those anymore because Dodge has grabbed the rights to the SRT badge. So no SRT Jeep for you. However, there’s a market for high power Cherokees, and FCA is not one for leaving money on the table (unless you want a third row of seats) so say hi to the Trackhawk.
For your money you’ll get a choice of the existing SRT’s 485 hp 6.4 litre v8, or a 707 hp supercharged 6.2 litre Hellcat V8 that, in the much lighter Challenger will get you to 60mph in 3.5 seconds, and getting to the Challenger’s top speed of 199mph won’t take you much longer.
While the greater weight of the GC will have an impact, it is expected that the Hellcat equipped Trackhawk will still get you to 60mph in under four seconds. Not bad for a portly 4wd!
As for cost - we don’t know how much it will be, but given the standard Grand Cherokee’s competitiveness versus other brands it is pretty much guaranteed you’re going to be getting into one of these for considerably less than anything comparable that Lexus, Infiniti, Mercedes, Audi, BMW or Land/Range Rover will sell you.
Want one yet? There’s quite a lot of SRTs on the road meaning the market is there so you won’t be alone. Only one problem - it won’t be on dealer forecourts for a while yet - deliveries in the US start mid next year.
