Default Uhf antenna

hi folks,

What's good in this department ? If like something that's a decent all rounder for both distance and hilly terrain

Have a look at an antenna with a gain of between 4db-6.6db, any higher db gain and you're "flattening" out the path of the transmitted signal too much and anything below 4db is too much of a "spherical" radiated pattern to achieve a good balance.

I'm running a GME AE4705G on the rear of my JKUR. I mounted it to the swing away on the tyre carrier.

It was formally mounted to the front of the car and never had any problems with it and now being on the rear it's not in the way of pics and vids and as I'm a trip leader with MJOC I'm leading convoys I'm in 95% of the time.

Thanks Tim! Is it flexy? Would it snap if you went into a underground parking etc

I run one of these as well and they are great.

They are not flexy at all , Believe me, I know as I've snapped one once! However you can buy a mount that allows it to be lowered when needed.

This is mine:

I'm using this RFI antenna....not sure on the model, but it seems to work fine. It's db rating is in the middle as a compromise on signal radiation shape.

I like it as it isn't too big, and the antenna itself is somewhat flexible, as well as having a sprung base.

Yes, go with what timbotrog and LeighP have said regarding dB ratings. Make sure when fitting that the cable coming out has enough room to move, especially on a spring base. I had the solid type before and quite long, about 1.2 mtrs, but changed to this smaller version (800mm) just for more flexibility really. Rated at 6.5dB so more for long distance but still seemed to work fairly well when in hilly country but then we were only about 50-100 metres from each other as well.

You guys running rear mount, where are you feeding the cable in? I found a tail light bracket that looked alright but coax is kinda big, the vent seems like an entry but not very tidy?
