Default Driving without the front drive shaft

I've read that you can run the WJ without the front drive shaft installed, but what about for extended kms, ie a round trip from Sydney to Victoria?

Can this cause any long term problems or damage?

Short story, I changed my driveshaft on the weekend with one from a wreckers as my rear cv had quite a bit of movement in it and a split boot. The one from the wreckers appeared pretty good, and no apparent damage to either boot.

Got under it tonight to reinstall my front rock guard, and the front boot has a 2cm long tear in it along the front metal clamp, and cv grease everywhere!

AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!

It's totally harmless to drive it without a front DS.

Heaps of us have done it. For varying amounts of time. Not by choice either

I'm on my 3rd front shaft, and have gone front shaftless inbetween.

Thanks guys, went shaft less, Sydney to Vic no dramas, Jeep didn't miss a beat.

Set the cruise to 110 and sat back and enjoyed the ride. Love my Jeep

4WD restored

Australia CV's in Rydalmere fitted up a new boot on Friday. I reinstalled the shaft today. Haven't taken it for a decent drive yet but seems all OK. Can't see there being any problems. Did the 2000km round trip to Vic last week without any dramas.

Yeah tossing up whether to get a new rear joint from RockAuto for my old shaft or not. Only $US100 so I probably will, along with a new front boot to be safe.
