Default 265's on a WH

Hey guys,

I'm pretty sure my WH has the original size 245 65 17 tyres on it. I'm wondering if 265 65 17 will fit ok? I do know there's going to be a small mismatch on the speedo if I go taller, I just want to be sure that the tyres won't scrub.

Cheers,

Robert

I run 265/65's and by the gps, the speedo is exactly right. Also when I was booked, it was spot on.
As for rubbing, I have +30 offset rims, therefore no rubbing.
You may get a slight rub with the standard rims, also it will probably rub on the upper control arm ball joint bolt. Some people just cut it off, I'm not keen on that idea myself.

Thanks 08 CRD, I'll just be running the standard GC 17" wheels.

I was hoping to use 265's when the 245's wear out, as I have seen more of them for sale used on eBay and they are more affordable than the 245's. It seems the size is more common to the HiLux crowd...

If anyone else is running 265's on their WH, please speak up!

Unfortunately, there's only really one way to find out for sure Robert.... a test fit. And the brand and type of 265/65R17 tyres that you plan to run makes a big difference. i.e. AT vs MT, aggressive tread pattern vs mild, side bitters or none etc. Plus, 265mm is the section width and not the tread width and actual diameters between the different brands and types can vary greatly.

All that being said, there are plenty of WH owners on this site that have run that size tyres on stock rims, so you should be able to find some that will work on yours. If you do a search of the forum, you should be able to come up with examples of specific tyres that have been fitted successfully without rubbing. Be careful when comparing what XH Commander owners have been able to do on their stock rims because they come with an extra 7mm offset, therefore pushing the wheel and tyre 7mm away from the dreaded front upper ball joint bolt. Finding a set of Commander rims for your WH would be a great low cost guarantee that you could fit 265's, however there's not many sets around for sale these days.

265/65R17's are so cheap because they are the standard size that come out on Prados, Pajeros and the like. Should be pretty easy to find a good deal on a set that you can confirm fits the WH. Good luck!

On my WH, I am running 265 70 17 on commander rims.
Rubs slightly when on hard lock, back off a little and its fine.
Tires clear the top ball joint stud, no need to cut.
Speedo reads about 5% low.

Just the spare need to sort, anyone know what size rim to buy to match the commander?
Or is there a spacer available to give standard WH rims a little more offset for a spare?

I have a set of standard 245 65 R17 Pirelli Scorpion AT's that I have on Commander rims...use when towing my van ..( don't like to pull 2.5 tonnes with oversizse tyres) just had a look the numbers on the rim are 17x 7.5 J 43.8 they do give a wider track than the standard GC rims

Hope that helps.
