We got our 07 kj crd in April, the temp gauge always sat just over a 1/4. Lately it's been sitting a hair under half. I was thinking that was a problem because it's never run that temp but research on the interwebs suggests halfway is normal?
I have an 06 CRD. The temperature gauge normally sits just below half when not towing and just on half when towing 2000kg, except for when towing up the Clyde or Brown Mountain when it gets to halfway between half and three quarters.
GDE have a good write up in their forum on the CRD engine temperture management system and what It's does to shutdown various activites under heat stress. If you tow it is worth reading.
Ours used to sit just under half but when we towed and/or had the AC on and/or towed up a steep ascent we had to back the speed off or the temp climbed into the red fairly quickly. A new radiator went into the car last year and now it typically sits around 1/4. When towing now it gets pretty close to half.
At 123K I replaced the old thermostat as it never got above 1/4. With the new thermostat, after 10minutes it sit just under halfway. I went with the cheaper crown brand and after 400km no leaks.
