Default Diesel Towing and Cruise Control

Basically the transmission downshifts too readily and can downshift several gears if the speed does not settle almost immediately. This where the road undulates a bit but is not hilly where of course cruise is best not used.

I guess that with a two litre engine and lots of gears this problem is almost inevitable but more allowance for speed variation would help.

Can this behaviour be modified or is is it fixed, the car will be going to the dealer for a service soon.

Just enjoy it Richard and thank yourself lucky you're not in a Mitsubishi Challenger.

I'd suggest possibly using the manual gear selection to limit the maximum gear the transmission will select.

Alternately, snow mode makes the transmission a lot more sluggish and more likely to hold gears (in the petrol at least), so maybe see how that goes. It's worth remembering though that snow mode uses 2nd gear for starts, and won't go any higher than 6th maximum.

That's a thought lujabe will try that. Mitzi Challenger? It's funny but the Cherokee holds it's towbar height under load way better than the Challenger yet the Cheeky rides way better, work that one out

Would have bought a three liter TDI Cherokee if such a thing was available, that would be brilliant.

I thought the same thing - being IRS and 'car-based', I expected the KL to want to squat a fair bit at the back with a load on the towball. I'm only towing a ~700kg camper trailer, but with that hitched up and luggage in the back of the Jeep it barely looks to be sitting down at all.
