Nsw classic rego
can anyone share a bit of knowledge on the requirements for nsw classic vehicle rego & the permitted uses. I tried my local rms for advise but was told that my jeep did not meet the requirements because it was modified from left to rhd, I have been made aware that the nsw corvette club has rhd converted cars on club rego.

I'm not in NSW, the following is Internet research for you...
The RMS website states "Historic vehicles must be as close to original condition as possible, with no alterations except for safety features such as seatbelts and turn indicators, or period accessories and options, if desired."
However... It would seem that it's up to individual clubs to declare a vehicle "safe". You don't have to present vehicle to RMS for inspection. If car was available with RHD as an option (via export I guess) then it's covered by the last sentence .
This car is in Vic now but was on NSW historic reg for many years. Converted to RHD using (from memory) FJ40 and Holden parts.
Permitted uses:
-Events organised by Roads and Maritime recognised historic vehicle clubs or community organisations, provided an official invitation has been received and recorded by the club in the official minutes, or 'Day Book'.
-Servicing within a short distance from their place of garaging.
-The inspection of the vehicle.

First off it needs to be 30 years old. Once you meet that requirement it really needs to be a stock vehicle. "Officially" the limits on use are to club events, and service and maintenance runs. You must also be a member of an RMS recognized Historic vehicle Club. The good news is there are some changes in the wind. The first came in October 2015 and that is a log book trial that allows 60 days per year additional unrestricted use. The next change is due early this year and will allow modifications but the details are still being finialised. Hope this sheds some light on things.
What year and model Jeep are you talking about?
ps. I am a current member of an Historic Jeep Club and also looking to establish a second one in NSW.

The club can opt to have a club member be responsible for road worthy requirements or have you get your own pink slip.

Yes, it's in Lang Lang, between Phillip Is and Melbourne. It was bought with the money I gave the guy for mine, he's tried several times to flip it for a massive profit. That photo is from the EBay listings.
Technically it's unregisterable even on Club plates in Vic now. Our rules changed Jan 2015, all vehicles 1949 and newer must pass a full Vicroads roadworthy, not just be declared "safe" by the Club. The RHD conversion, brake mods and floor pan replacement ave never been engineered. That car is a 1949. I dodged a bullet skipping Wally's for mine , mine is a 1948.
It was the unengineered mods plus the fact the blue one is totally original apart from station wagon overdrive gearbox not Jeepster overdrive gearbox that swayed me to buy it not Wallys - both were for sale at the same time. Mine even has the original small glass window in the soft top, most now have a bigger window (as per 1950 update) and in vinyl not glass.

Thanks for the replies, I would like to put club rego on a 82 scrambler, 85 j10 both near ready to go . The cj8 is what I enquired about & told it didnt qualify due to the conversion other than that they are both standard stock vehicles. I was told at the time by the rms about future plans for custumised classic vehicles regos & I should look into it, the jeep is rhd because it was a requirement at the time by the rta to pass for rego. Same bloke told me that it had 90 days a year private use, but it is 60 ?. Is the vehicle that is club regod have any restrictions on who can drive it, can I drive one & someone else drive the other & is there a number placed on the ammount of club vehicles travelling together to qualify as a club event. If you get a club running Id be interested, whereabouts on the north coast are you considering, Im at Nelson Bay Port Stephens
