Gaz, taking the the top off only converts it to the soft top not the true convertible. The convertible had a storage area for the roof, a rear seat, rear passenger windows and spare mounted euro-style on the rear bumper. The hardtop / soft top lacks all of these. (There was a ute too, that had a hard top over only the front half creating a separate cabin and tray).
I'd love one too, if it was a true convertible. I paid more than that for my older restoration 1948 which is a true Phaeton, it would be great to have a pigeon pair.
I was suggesting unless it's in good condition $12K might be a bit rich. A fully restored CJ6 rarely reaches that amount, Neil Williams hasn't sold his VJ2 and Wally's RHD conversion VJ2 sat round for years before it sold. Let's face it, most Jeepers are tight ar**es when it comes to paying for collector cars and most car collector wouldn't proudly declare "I bought a Jeep". But, if a good CJ6 is worth $8-10K and import fees are around $4K then $12K is about right if condition is good. At least, unlike mine, if you're prepared to risk body damage you can go 4 wheeling, the VJ2 is 2WD.
