Default King springs vs. Ironman

Hi Team,

I have a 2003 CRD and would like to lift it 40-50mm.

The 2 spring brands I have narrowed down to are King and Ironman - both are available in NZ.

I have read here that the Kings will give almost 75mm lift. How does this compare to the Ironman lifts? Are they both raised 50mm based on the "Up Country" suspension height?

Shocks will be replaced at the same time. Ironman comes as a kit (Coils and shocks), so what shocks to people use with Kings?

Thanks in advance,

JP

my family has had ironman (springs and shocks) in both a landcruiser troopy and range rover, both of which rode extremely rough and felt quite rigid.

I had kings in my wj grand with rancho adjustable shocks, it rode really nice but was basically impossible to get the shocks adjusted evenly, which caused the car to sway slightly over bumps.

I currently have an Ironman kit in my Jackaroo/Bighorn - it is very stiff.

How was the height with the King springs? Did it raise the WJ much?

I just put a 4" lift in it which raised it about 2" over the kings, the kings where already in the jeep when i bought it, but i think its about 2" above the up country since the 4" was meant to be 3" above the up country suspension.

I just put 2" lift king springs in mine. The shocks had already been replaced before with Ultima brand. They will be getting replaced again.

The car tracks a little more than the standard springs and has a bit of 'jiggle' from the rear end. It does corner a lot better considering the higher centre of gravity. More level and controlled

From what I can tell, to reduce the tracking, I need to increase the caster, so some adjustable lower control arms are in order at some stage. Alternatively i could probably get away with a rtc steering damper. I'll also look at a rear sway bar and some better shocks since it will be spending a lot of it's time on the highway and those should eliminate the 'jiggle'

I've got EFS springs & shocks in my wj give it about 50mm lift. Ride is good and goes a lot better than the stock suspension on the beach and tracks. But I don't know if you can get in NZ

I have found a supplier of EFS springs and shocks. I had not considered them as I had never really had any info about them.

My 2 concerns are ride quality and ride height.

My Ironman kit on my Jackaroo is very stiff, great for towing and camping but too harsh/stiff unloaded or off road. It seems silly to have such a nice, well specced car with an overly harsh ride.

I also have upcountry springs in the back and 1000lb springs in the front (upcountry springs are rated at 820lbs) so I don't want to buy a lift kit that only gets me back to the original height. This is why I was looking at Kings as they reportedly go 40-50mm above upcountry specs.
