Default JKU CRD - Your favourite mods

Hi guys,
Just picked up a 2012 JKU CRD Auto. This is my 4th wrangler, have had 2 TJ's (auto and manual), a Rubi JKU manual and now this one.

I have a reasonable idea what I'm doing however I'd really like your opinion and to hear about your favourite and most beneficial mods.

At the moment I'm sussing out:
Samco turbo hoses
GDE Flash Tune kit
Mopar slush mats
Full 80,000km service to get it up to speed and start fresh with a blank canvas.

This is my first diesel, trying to do the right thing by it.

Thanks

I think it will need to be an ECUwest tune as its a 2012, still available from murchison (or direct from ECUwest)

I've just had a Provent 200 fitted to filter out any blow-by engine oil before it goes back through the turbo

Other than those two things it's a good engine, but heat is the main concern, especially with the auto's. A scangauge is a great tool for monitoring temperatures (can also program it to monitor transmission temps)

You will probably either find it's fine for temps, or it gets uncomfortably hot. The stack of radiator panels are spaced very close together, so it's worth making sure they are well cleaned out externally, and have the engine coolant flushed and replaced.

If you do have heat issues, a remote transmission cooler is one of the best mods because it will remove the transmission heat source from in front of the engine radiator. The poison spyder hood louvre is good (if you like the style) and the Hayden HD fan clutch is supposed to be good (I don't have this...yet)

Also, avoid blocking the grille with winch/spotlights if possible!

Thanks mate, good reply!

Did you have to build up a Provent 200 kit? I had a look at their website, nothing generic for JK CRD.

The Scanguage says the standard operating temperature when warm is between 83-85oC radiator water temperature. It has a snorkel fitted so the intake air is nice and cool. Looks like it's getting about 10L/100km with 1" and 33's.

Does anyone rate the K&N air filters?
I had one on my first TJ then a Poison Spyder hood leuver and Air Raild cold air intake on the current TJ that made a good difference. It seems to be running fairly cool. Had an Auto Transmission cooler on the first TJ (Auto) that made a huge difference especially with the carpets removed. Haven't had a good look under the bonnet but it seems crowded, did you struggle to get it in there behind the plastic grille?

Accelerator pedal wedge! Bring the throttle up level with the brake. First mod I did, and the cheapest!

I know you are asking mainly about diesel engine mods but out of all the money I've spent on mine, the best mod I've done was to change out the OEM 2" lift shocks and replace them with Fox Shocks.

Even with the standard lovell springs left in, those shocks absolutely changed the way it rides and corners. Body roll is pretty much non existant.

Provent fits nicely where the clutch fluid reservoir goes on the manual, this isn't mine, but it's what I copied.

I didn't want the transmission cooler behind the grille because it pours heat straight into the main radiator. I had it relocated lower down with a custom bash plate.

all work was done by Aztec4x4 in perth

I have heard the K&N filters give better performance because they do less filtering....

I used to buy K&N air filters, but now buy AFE dry filters. Similar air flow but better filtration.

Cheers, Craig
