Default Jk crd long crank time

Hi everyone i have a 2008 jk wrangler 219ks 2.8 crd

Lately its been starting up weird. When its dead cold it starts fine in about 2 cranks or 2 seconds and when its even slightly warm or been sitting it takes quite a while to start up, about 3-5 cranks or 5ish seconds. Sometimes even longer.

Any ideas whats causing this? Its not the battery had the optima yellow top replaced a few months ago. Seems starnge thats its fine when its cold.

Thanks Ben

Hi,
Are you hearing in the primer pump run prior to start up?

Sounds to me like it may be bleeding off fuel rail pressure or your primer pump isn't working properly.

Haven't played to much with the jk crd systems as I haven't had any problems with mine, but have had similar hard to start/long crank time on other vehicle.
Problems with them have from the primer pump to the high pressure pump.

Could be. Haven't really looked into much above general maintenance in mine yet.

If it does prime maybe try and prime it a few times and see if there is any difference. In starting.

Intake pumps failing to trigger or not supplying enough pressure is a known problem. Not a common problem but a few owners have had to replace their in-tank pump due to delayed or failed starts.

The fuel rail needs to get to a set pressure before the injectors are triggered.
The computure triggers the fuel pump in the tank to prime. Some times this pump doesn't trigger and the car will just crack, keep an ear out for the buzzing noise of the intake priming, if you can hear it prime and still get a failed start (long cranking before start, or no start at all) then you have other problems.

Some owners have had faulty fuel rail sensors (only 1 owner i know had it replaced and problem fixed)

Other thing could be injectors, but most times you will give a large white puff of smoke once started if it is the injectors as its over fueling while cranking.

If you have a OBD scanner, using torque app you can see the fuel rail pressure while cranking, if this does not raise up on the first crank then this can indicate a bad intanke pump.

@ 220k it could be pump/and or injectors.
if you are located in melb I can have a look at it. or join up to
