Default Newbie question on roof racks

Hi all,
This is my first post so I hope I am not making any mistakes. I am about to pick up a JK 4 door and am looking for a roof rack system that I can use for both the hard top and soft top. I have been trawling through the forum so hope I am not being too repetitive. I will be using the rack to carry kayaks, standup paddle boards and surfboards (not all at once) and the best option that I can find seems to be the Rugged Ridge Sherpa roof rack (http://www.doubleblackoffroad.com/je...Unlimited.aspx). Does anyone have experience with this rack and/or are there others that I should be considering? Any comments would be most helpful.

Cheers,
Jerry

Not sure on the cost comparison, but have a look at Uneek's roof rack system...Aussie made, so any issues you're dealing with the manufacturer here in Aust.
A lot of people like them.

PS...welcome to Ausjeep.

Thanks for the tip Leigh, and thanks for the welcome. Picked the Jeep up today and am looking forward to the weekend. I read somewhere on this forum that you have to be a bit careful with racks that attach to the body at the front and the chassis at the rear, which the Rugged Ridge rack does. I think there was a post from one of the Uneek guys which said the Uneek rack does that too but has some extra engineering in it to cope with movement. This made me think twice about the Rugged Ridge rack but I will most likely ever be carrying boards and kayaks so don't need a basket on the rack, just a couple of cross members, which is what the Rugged Ridge one is - tough decision....

Cheers,
Jerry

look at GOBI from DBOR (www.doubleblackoffroad.com). im a bit bias because the guy who i spoke to on the phone from uneek was a bit of a tool and didnt seem to want to answer any questions i had.

if you want to carry heavier loads, go for the exo-skeleton type rack(like the gobi and uneek), they are rated up to 130kg dynamic.

and welcome to your new addiction

Nice piece of kit, Sharpwrax, but he moved to the USA and took production with him, so the cost would need comparing, I think.

Thanks all for the tips - the SRC rack from Double Black Offroad looks ok too.

Cheers,
