Gday all
Im getting organised to get the transmission serviced. Will be taking it to an independent mechanic & want to supply anything required to save some money.
I cant find the thread about this. The owners manual states atf+4 (from memory) which can be gotten from supercheap, etc, but does the transmission pan need to be replaced or can it be reused? If its replaced, where is the best place to get one?
Anything else i need to know?
Thanks
Silverfox
Filter is incorporated with the pan, but as usual the cost of a pan in good old Oz is from memory around $700 & about $300 in the US.
So I know where I'll be getting mine from

I remember a article in Jeep Action about doing the ZF 8 Speed service earlier this year. They stated that a aftermarket pan with replaceable filter may not be that far away. I had a ZF 6 speed in my Ford Teritory that had the same setup (plastic pan with integrated filter) My local auto trans guy was able to purchase a replacement steel pan and filter from a company called Motorspecs in Perth.
Yes, it is a 5 speed 2012 diesel model.
Don't know about if it is the same as a wh gearbox.
Thought I've read somewhere (apart from the earlier replies) that the filter is part of the pan.
The atf+4 fluid required seems like its easy to get.

It IS the same box, Mercedes 722.6/W5A580/NAG1
Pan is metal not plastic & does not have the filter built in. It looks like this.
This is what the 8 speed pan looks like.
