What's the trick to opening the bleed valve? The workshop manual does not describe it very well.

I'm planning a fuel filter change. If I pre-fill the filter, do I need to bleed the system, or can I just start it after the change?

If you fill the filter, you don't need the bleed valve.

On my last filter change I filled the filter, installed it and the car started without any problems, like nothing was disturbed.

Thanks Adrian. That's helpful.

I'd still like to figure out the bleed valve, just in case the filter change goes badly - or for future reference if I have a "fuel incident" (possible considering the gauge goes from quarter full to empty way faster than the rest of the range).

I just cannot get the grey ring to budge. Which direction do I need to be forcing it?

Just to clarify - I know the instruction is to "Press locking ring at bleeder valve in direction of arrow and pull off seal" but I cannot see any arrow.
