Default 2.7 CRD injector cost

I recently had all my injectors tested by a local company for $25 per injector. I've since discovered that I could have purchased a leak back kit off eBay for $40 to do the test and saved myself some cash. Anyway...

All 5 injectors are worn out with excessive leak back although the spray pattern is ok. I decided I wasn't putting these worn out injectors back in after the hassle of lowering the engine/tranny and removing the plethora of black death from the top of the engine. The search began for a set of 5 new or refurbished injectors.

The cheapest new injectors were $2,208.

Refurbished Bailey's Blueprint injectors were $1,745 plus a $1,375 core charge with only 2 weeks allowed to return your old injectors so you can get the core charge refunded. All this is plus freight. The website would only allow me to select the injectors in multiples of 4 which isn't very helpful when my engine requires 5.

Specialist Diesel Injection Services UK refurbished injectors were $1,124.29 including freight with a 30 day window for returning old injectors. Will receive $223 back once they receive old injectors.

Huge difference in prices. Unfortunately I had to go with the UK business.

With most of the new Jeeps sold in Australia being CRD I can forsee the refurbishment service being a necessity but for some crazy reason Australia isn't competitive?

Yes- very expensive - when I did mine I replace #4 & #5 with new and got the other 3 checked and renozzled for $95 each at Diesel Australia Allgas St, Slacks Ck Brisbane area . My logic being the 3 checked/retipped unit are relatively easy to access compared to 4 & 5 . The leak test with the engine running gives a real picture on what really needs replacing ,generally only 1 will be really playing up . Diesel Australia is an Authorised Bosch Dealer and their opinion was it was a waste of time reconditioning because of parts and labour costs -they do it every day so I was not going to argue .Hopefully the injectors from England will give a long like and the engine should run the best it has for a while. How many KLMs had your engine done -I find 200000 generally rounds them up ,but my present WG has gone thru a main pressure pump and 2 injectors before I bought it around 130,000 -cost $3000 to replace . Another person on this forum paid over $4500 just for new injectors and labour at a Jeep repairer - to me that the value of the car !Lucky you can do the work yourself.

My car has done 340,000kms.
The job isn't rocket science but does require time and getting filthy dirty. If I couldn't afford to have the car off the road while I'm doing this then I couldn't justify the cost in paying someone to do it.
Yeah the people I spoke to here in Oz said labour costs in reconditioning the injectors made no sense. I live in a mining town full of diesel Fitters that all earn six figures so I can only guess the rest of the world doesn't pay their workers anywhere near as much.

$790 for a new Bosch injector where the sum of the total parts of each of those things are less than $40 wholesale, is gouging and beggars belief.

i have three injectors in mine that need replacing when i had my injectors back flow tested.
my cars done 255thou k but im not getting any symptoms like smoking or hard starting.my fuel consumption is 11lts/100km.
Therefore I find no reason to touch them. I'll do another back flow test in 100though kms and re-access then.

IMO spending $2000 on a $3000 car doesnt make economical sense.

$450 including GST per new injector seems to be the going rate. My problem is that I need 5 of them at once.
My cheap project has become an expensive one.

A negative of owning any CRD.

it will run heaps better with new injectors, it can be worth the money particularly if you can replace them yourself.
