Default 4 Inch Lift Kit / WJ - Sourced overseas

Hey guys,

Now that I have done the injector seals/rebuilt high pressure pump (thanks to those who helped me with messages-BigTony and Jason) I am looking at a 4inch lift kit. Now the main contenders I have seen are Iron Rock Off-Road, Rough Country, BDS & Clayton.

The Rough Country 4in Long Arm Kit looks appealing especially off Morris 4x4 in USA. Does anyone have any feedback on this setup in a CRD WJ JEEP and what other mods would be advised (is a double cardan driveshaft required ?) as it says on their website their 4inch kit won't fit my NV247 Transfer Case (QuadraTrac II) what was shipping from the USA as it seems to be $1000ish on eBay, so $2000aud total sent to Aus.

Will be looking at fitting 31x10.5x15 or 32x11.5x15 BFG A/Ts or M/Ts after with bushcutter flares to accomodate extra flex. I also have the factory fitted 3.73 gear ratios, so I believe the slightly bigger tires will be all good.

anyone who has a similar setup or who just wants to chip in their two cents much appreciated!

Why do you want 4 inches of lift?

Good question.. I would like to get the 3.5 OME kit or a 4inch one because I have taken my Jeep off-roading and found my current kit, which I believe is a bilstein 2inch, has the wheels scraping the body on turns with some flex & also to raise the diff/underbody heights by fitting bigger tyres. Maybe it would be more beneficial to just get bushcutter flares fitted and go for a sensible tire size such as 31x10.5x15. I've never had any experience with modifying suspension etc so that's why I had asked. Am I perhaps opening a can of worms with going for 4inches of lift-sorry if this is a stupid post just wanted opinions

i have the 4" IRO long arm kit front and back, i went with a double double cardan front drive shaft so i can set the caster for best handling. The only problem i have with the kit is excessive road noise, not sure what is causing it though, possibly just some rear driveshaft vibration.
I also have the ala-plast flares which allow me to run 33x12.5 with no rubbing at all.
If you only want to run 31s just go with the flares and some panel beating with a proper 2" lift, some 2" lifts are only 1" taller than the upcountry suspension.i had ~31.5s on a 2" king spring lift with minimal rubbing and light trimming of guards.

The johny joints and smaller bushes in the IRO control arms will contribute a lot to road noise IMO.

I wouldn't do 4" of lift on the standard suspension architecture, the jeep would drive like a POS I'd reckon.

What width tyres do you run now to cause these issues? It seems like a lot of an investment and spanner time for a marginal tyre size gain.
I ran 31's, well like 30 and 3/4 on mine for ages with only the 2 inch pucks on the old tired springs and had no issues at all with scrubbing, rubbing etc, and took it on all manner of tracks and obstacles, so you should be fine with that tyre size, depending on how wide you go. Ive now got the factory JK rims and tyres which are a bees dick under 32" and have no issues with scrubbing still, due to the narrower size.

Im running BDS 4" and Flare, just to clear 33". Its a lot of work to get done properly, driveshafts, wheel offset, alignment, speedo, especially with diesel when you can't change ratio. Ride comfort from 2" to 4" is chalk and cheese on short arm, so if you only want to run 31" stick with 2".
