Default Cruise Control

Hey Guys

XJ Limited 99 purchased not too long ago.

Cruise Control dash light comes on but won't set.

Have checked for vacuum leaks and cant find anything. All heater\Ac vents are working so no leaks there either.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Don't know if it's like other modern cars but could be an abs sensor fault or something?

Check your stop light bulbs if they are all burned out the cruise control will not engage because of the brake switch circuit is open.

I was under the impression if the dash light came on, it wouldn't be brake light or fuse related.

Either way I will check tonight, thanks mate.

Cruise Control will only activate if all is working OK within the vehicle.
This means that:
* There is no MIL light on AND that there are no error messages - these may not cause the MIL to light.
* The brake light switch is not ON
* The vehicle is above the min set speed for cruise
* The vehicle is in high gear (cruising?)

Checks:
* Brake lights are not on AND that they actually work
* In REV do the reversing lights come on (CAUTION CHECKING HERE)
* Any codes in the ECU

Happy Trails
