Default Want to up grade Family Roll Bar

Hi there,

My son has a 1989 Jeep Wrangler YJ, straight 6, 4.2L. Manual Transmission. It came with the sport roll bar. Because he often has kids in the back seat I want to up grade to a family roll bar. 1) Is there an adaptor kit I could add on to it. 2) could I replace the roll bar with one from a later model jeep and if so will the soft top still fit. 3) Is there an after market family roll bar you might recommend. I am looking for any suggestions and ideas to make the jeep safer for kids to ride in.

THanks.

I didn't find the right solution from the internet.

I have a family bar from a tj that I was going to put in a yj, they look pretty close but I was told they are not a clean swap out. The stuts between the bar & windscreen are different length, dont know if a combination of the 2 would help. I havent got around to taking the roof off to check. the USA wrangler website would be a good source of info but I always have problems signing in so havent been able to ask. Was one earlier in the year on gumtree but not an easy item to find.

Plenty of kits in the states to turn a sports style into a family style but not cheap with the freight being big round and heavy steel tube. The tj cage can be made to fit with a welder but it won't be factory or a perfect fit and not as strong as a family cage which is one piece tube. Your best bet is to find an local engineer who bends steal and have them bend up the rear arms and have them weld on.
